2018 New Year Goals

Friday, 5 January 2018

Happy 2018 and welcome to my first post of the year!! Last year, I did a post containing the goals that I wanted to accomplish over 2017, as you may have read from my reflection of the year, I did pretty well! I've decided to do the same again for 2018!

1. Be more regular with my blogging / Schedule

I seem to do really well one week and bash 3 posts out but then there will be a 2/3 week gap. This really irritates me and is definitely something I want to work on. Even if it's one post a week, I just want to stop with the larger gaps! I'm going to start using scheduling more to my advantage and try to  be somewhat organised.

2. Eating Healthy

I already eat pretty healthy, so shouldn't be something that I struggle with too much, but it is something I want to continue with. I want to keep my dairy intake to a minimum as I don't digest it easily. I don't drink cows milk and haven't from a very young age due to this. I will very occasionally have pizzas/creamy sauces if I am eating out, which I'm not going to say I will stop completely, but I do want to keep it to a minimum. I am going to write a post dedicated to my healthy eating and fitness goals for the year, so I won't go into too much detail here!

3. Be more financially responsible

Since having a baby (and being on a very low maternity pay), I've realised that I really need to start putting some of my wage aside and save for a 'rainy day'. I'm hoping to have £5000 saved my this time next year. I know to some people this is loads and to others it is nothing, but I just want something there for if there is an emergency and also for my daughter should she need help etc. It will probably be difficult as I don't go back to a full wage until June!

4. Post more videos on YouTube

I have posted a few videos on my channel, but I want to (like blogging) have the schedule more regular. I know I'll get more blogposts up than videos but as long as it is regular, I will be happy! I also need to stop being bothered what people think in regards to YouTube (oh she thinks she is cool etc kind of attitude people seem to have to small youtubers).

5. Ethical Changes

Obviously being Vegan is something that most people have heard of over the past year. I don't think I will go vegan due to needing a high protein diet (and not having a very wide range of food that I like). I know there are lots of meat alternative options, but I genuinely hate the taste of all them (beans/lentils/soy etc). I will try to wean myself into those options, but I know saying I will go vegan isn't something that I would be successful in yet.

As I said before, I don't drink cows milk, I have very little dairy in my diet as it doesn't agree with me anyway. I want to minimise the amount of meat I eat (hopefully cutting out pork and beef completely in the future), however, I do eat a lot chicken and fish. With this in mind, I want to make sure that I am buying organic/free range items and ethically sourced fish. This will mean that I will eat less (due to the increased price) but also not support poorly sourced meat/fish/eggs.

I also aim to try and not forget those blimin' bags for life! I'm going to try to purchase some cloth bags to take to the shops and actually use them. Instead of forgetting and having to get yet more bags!  Included in this, I want to keep my use of drinking from plastics to a minimum. I had been doing well with this towards the end of last year and have purchased a glass water bottle to carry with me to help.

I have signed up to give money to a charity each month, but I hope that I'll be able to give more once I have a wage again.

Finally, I want to do more to support small/individual businesses. Both through purchasing from them more and also promoting them! My friend Mary and her sister Ceri, run a business that you can purchase cards, gifts, wedding invites etc from. They design and produce the cards themselves and try to have quirky and amusing designs! As you can see below, they are great quality and include some awesome puns! You can have a look at more of their items on their website Just Joy Designs.

6. Take as many photos as possible

As this is the first full year for my baby, I want to take as many photos as possible to document it all! I also want to take a lot on my DSLR rather than just relying on my phone. We are going to Los Angeles in April and it will be her first holiday (and first trip to Disney!) so I want to take as many photos as possible (and do videos of her too). I'm thinking I might make a video montage of her first year as well.

7. Try and be more sociable

I'm never going to be the person that sees a different friend every day. I like being on my own too much for that. However, I want to make a conscious effort to not go ages without seeing people and to get better at messaging! I'm one of those people that disappears for 2 months then randomly appears again, which I want to stop doing! I also want to stop the whole 'yeah we will meet up soon' and then it's been two years and nothing has been arranged...

What are your goals? Do we have any similar ones? Let me know if you have any New Years posts, I love reading them!

Follow me on:

  1. You should try bullet journalling to help you get organised with a blog/youtube schedule, it's helped me loads! (I'll show you mine when I see you!)

Very proud of all the ethical changes you plan to make - I'm tempted to try out being Vegan for a while x

    1. Yeah I've seen quite a few of the bullet journals, but I know I'd only use it for like a week and then not bother haha!

I feel like you'd find vegan life easier than me, but that means no more prawns!

  2. I love the goals you've set for yourself this year! Especially the ethical changes in food, I am personally not vegan either but I knowing where your foods come from is important.

  5. So many of your goals are very similar to mine, hun! I too would love to try to be more consistent in blogging. I find that my blogging energy comes in bursts, so I do a lot and then burn out quite easily. Good luck with your goals and plans hun, hope they all come true. <3 xoxo

  6. Hi, great post. Hope 2018 is working out well for you so far.

  7. I can be alone for ages and I was for a lot of 2017, so I've been trying to be more sociable as well! I've had that whole 'let's catch up' then no one texts each other again for ages thing happen to me before way too much as well...need to change that asap...
